We are currently seeking a Lead of Barra Portfolio Manager User Interface Engineering Team for the Application Development Group in our Budapest office.
Position overview
Barra Portfolio manager is MSCI’s new and innovative java-based product, which will allows users to interactively evaluate portfolios and produce risk reports through the software vehicle. The software enables user to harness full power of a desktop application without the costs of truly locally installed software.
In addition to cutting edge UI techniques and sophisticated user interface , The product employs many flavors of risk analytics, most notably factor-based risk modeling, flexibility to assess portfolio performance for multiple models on multiple dates simultaneously. Additionally product supports performance attribution , time series reporting , advanced charting and various tools to manage clients data. Major analytical and usability tools include personalized portfolio workspaces, strategy analysis, batch portfolio & user data importing , multiple portfolio comparison, and trade scenarios. The platform’s functionality is enhanced by a wide range of third party financial data; aiding investment professionals worldwide accurately evaluate their portfolio risk throughout the history of their portfolios’ lives.
The product interfaces with a multi-tier, distributed, true 24x7x365 platform that provides analytics support and various other data and processing support.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a lead of BPM User Interface Engineering Team to join the Application Development Group in our Budapest office, working closely with the development teams in Berkeley, Hong Kong and Mumbai. As a group lead, this candidate will be responsible for:
- Hands-on technical leadership and coding
- Recruiting and staffing of engineering team of 7 people
- Architectural design and enhancements for the Swing/Java based User Interface Framework
- Mentoring developers in best practices of software development , managing schedules and time lines , ensuring very high quality of software output
- Developing fluid working relationship with development and product Management teams in Berkeley, New York and Mumbai.
- We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal, communications, and analytical skills. Prior knowledge of finance and financial data is important, but not required, for the position.
Desired experience and qualifications
- Experience building and organizing engineering teams on projects with 5 to 10 software engineers
- 7 years of hands-on experience with coding and 5 years of technical leadership on commercial software projects based on Java and object-oriented technology
- Proven ability to design components and integrate them into the existing architecture
- Expert at Multithreading
- Prior experience in building a sophisticated Java user interface product and demonstrating deep expertise in Swing and UI concepts
- A Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts
- Excellent communication skills – listening, verbal and written
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic, high pressure and deadlines driven work environment
- Ability to take responsibility for variety of tasks and roles
- Desire to work as part of geographically distributed software development team
- Ability to learn quickly
Preferable skills
- Financial services background
- Understanding of Spring remoting and JNLP
- Experience with Agile methodology for focusing on manageable development iterations and coordinating the work between multiple engineering teams
- Experience in unit test frameworks and release management
- FF Formal training in software engineering and computer science
